London based metal superstars DRAGONFORCE have revealed details of their forthcoming new album. Entitled “The Power Within”, the ten track monster is the bands fifth studio album, and first with new singer Marc Hudson in the fold.

    DragonForce guitarist Herman Li said,

“The last two years have been the most fun we ever had making an album. Through writing, jamming and touring together, we have built this incredible energy and it has been fully captured on the new album.

This time around we’ve really brought our metal side to the surface and made some of the best music of our career. From the fastest song we’ve ever recorded to the slower songs, and some things you would never expect from us, this is by far the most diverse DragonForce album yet.”

“The Power Within” will be released on April 15th 2012 via the band’s own Electric Generation Recordings, distributed by Essential Music (UK), Roadrunner Records (North America), 3Wise (Australia) and JVC Victor (Japan).

Li added, “This is an exciting new era for DragonForce with Marc joining the band, so we figured this was an ideal time to take full control of our own destiny and establish our own record label for Europe. It’s all hands on deck running it, but a great buzz!”

Due to the delay in completing their new album, DragonForce have unfortunately been forced to cancel their scheduled appearance at the upcoming 2012 Soundwave Festival.

    DragonForce guitarist Sam Totman comments:

“It’s bitterly disappointing for us not to be able to play our debut Soundwave in 2012 because we were so looking forward to it and were going to kick off the World Tour there. The problem is we’ve only just finished the actual recording of the new album and now have the mastering, videos and a ton of worldwide promo to do. The album recording was already running late when Marc (Hudson, new singer) contracted laryngitis a couple of months back which meant he couldn’t finish his vocals in the studio on time and pushed the album release date back even further. Australia has always been great to us and we can 100% assure our Aussie fans that we will be touring there at some point in 2012, we just have to move our touring plans around a little to accommodate the delay. The good news is the album is sounding awesome and we are all eager for our fans to hear it and we hope everyone has a great Soundwave!”

The new DragonForce album will be released in Australia through 3Wise Records spring 2012.

DragonForce guitarists Sam Totman and Herman Li were interviewed by Sam Stewart-Panko when the band played Toronto on October 20. Astute metal fans will recognize that last name, but maybe not the first name; that’s because Sam Stewart-Panko is the nine-year-old son of prominent metal journalist Kevin Stewart-Panko, and a major DragonForce fan. And his questions weren’t any dumber than his dad’s would have been! You can read the full interview at Hellbound.ca, but here’s a sample:

How do you think up your lyrics?
Sam: Umm. Good question. I guess the first thing is that the vocal and melody lines have to fit. We write the music first and they have to fit that. When you listen to a song, you can get a feel and think, “Well, that song could be about that” and you get a picture in your head of something it might be and you try and write some lyrics about that.
Herman: They have to fit the atmosphere of the song; like if it’s a dark song or a happy, uplifting or triumphant song. For this new album, we actually had all the topics written for each song so we made sure not to repeat lyrics and themes. This time around, we might even be able to explain to people what the songs are about because sometimes we feel that people get confused and think all the songs are just about dragons and warriors.

After we finished asking DragonForce bassist Frédéric Leclerq and drummer Dave Mackintosh serious questions about the band’s new vocalist and upcoming studio album, we asked them five more questions about stuff like road food, clothes, and national stereotypes. Here are their answers on those subjects, and a few others as well. Enjoy!
